Argentine Tango was born alongside the genre of music in the late 1800s or early 1900s and is still danced around the world today in the setting of a milonga, or “dance party.” Each step is improvised based on the music, the couple dancing, and the entire floor of dancers. With its long history and rich culture, Tango communities have a unique etiquette guiding all areas of the milonga. We will discuss this throughout the series, but I encourage you to read more about the history and how the dance exists today under the F&Qs at http://tangogypsies.com.
Learn some of the fundamentals* of this magical dance as we explore the two systems of walking, parallel and crossed systems.
In the entire series, we will explore intentional walking (week 1), dissociation (week 2), systems of walking (week 3), the cross (week 4), changes of direction (week 5), and the close embrace (week 6). If you are new to a fundamentals class, please read the full description of this format.
