Fundamentals of Argentine Tango, "Ochos" (5)

  • Open Space Studios 1711 North Main Street Blacksburg, VA, 24060 United States (map)

Argentine Tango was born alongside the genre of music in the late 1800s or early 1900s in Buenos Aires, a melting pot of cultures at that time. It exists today in the setting of a milonga, or “dance party,” and each step is improvised based on the music, the couple dancing, and the entire floor of dancers. Read more about the dance under the F&Qs at http://tangogypsies.com.

The quintessential ocho is the topic for the fifth week of this series. We will learn techniques to execute them and look at ways to incorporate them into your dance.

In this whole series* we will explore intentional walking (week 1), dissociation and crossed system (week 2), the cross (week 3), turns and changes of direction (week 4), ochos (week 5), and close embrace (week 6). If you are new to a fundamentals class, please read the full description of this format.

Registration is optional but strongly encouraged as details are always subject to change. Get in touch to let me know you are coming.
