Fundamentals of Argentine Tango, "Dissociation and Crossed System" (2)

  • Open Space Studios 1711 North Main Street Blacksburg, VA, 24060 United States (map)

Argentine Tango was born alongside the genre of music in the late 1800s, or early 1900s in Buenos Aires; a melting pot of cultures at that time. It exists today in the setting of a milonga, or “dance party” and each step is improvised based on the music, the couple dancing, and the entire floor of dancers. Read more about the dance under the F&Qs at http://tangogypsies.com.

This week, continuing in a comfortable and communicative open embrace, we will begin dissociating and walking “outside” of our partner. We will also introduce the existence of crossed system vs. a parallel position and explore it as time allows.

In this full series* we will explore intentional walking (week 1), dissociation and crossed system (week 2), the cross (week 3), turns and changes of direction (week 4), ochos (week 5), and close embrace (week 6). If you are new to a fundamentals class please read the full description of this format.
