Argentine Tango was born alongside the genre of music in the late 1800s, or early 1900s in Buenos Aires; a melting pot of cultures at that time. It exists today in the setting of a milonga, or “dance party” and each step is improvised based on the music, the couple dancing, and the entire floor of dancers. Read more about the dance under the F&Qs at http://tangogypsies.com.
This week we dig into “the cross” or La “Cruzada”; a unique and beautiful step for the follower that appears in the dance in a variety of ways. We will talk about why it’s challenging and often misinterpreted.
In this full series* we will explore intentional walking (week 1), dissociation and crossed system (week 2), the cross (week 3), turns and changes of direction (week 4), ochos (week 5), and close embrace (week 6). If you are new to a fundamentals class please read the full description of this format.
